What’s Happening This October at North Dakota Native Vote

Catch up on Native Vote 101, upcoming events, ballot measures, and what’s happening across our communities this October.

Voter Education Update: Native Vote 101 Tour!

Our voter education efforts are about more than simply providing information—they are about creating opportunities for Native voters to feel informed, prepared, and empowered to participate in decisions that impact their communities.

We held the first stop of our tour in Belcourt, ND, on the Turtle Mountain Reservation at the Sky Dancer Event Center. The event created an engaging space to ask questions, clarify areas of voter confusion, and learn about the voting process. We were encouraged by the thoughtful conversations throughout the evening, which helped create greater confidence and inspired Indigenous action.

Thank You to Our Community Partners & Volunteers

North Dakota Native Vote would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the volunteers and community partners who helped make our first stop a success. Your support is essential to creating welcoming spaces where community members can ask questions, access resources, and prepare to make their voices heard.

A special thank you goes to the Turtle Mountain Motor Vehicle Department, who helped remove barriers to voting by issuing free Tribal IDs. We also want to thank the Rolette County Auditors for providing sample ballots, giving attendees an opportunity to better understand what they can expect when they head to the polls.

Most importantly, thank you to all of the volunteers who gave their time, energy, and knowledge to support this effort. Voter education is a community effort, and the commitment of our volunteers and partners helps strengthen Native voices and civic engagement across North Dakota.

Next Stop: Fort Yates ND

The Voter 101 Tour continues in Fort Yates, ND, on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation on October 7, 2026 at the Sitting Bull Auditorium from 4:30 – 7:00pm. We look forward to connecting with community members, answering questions, and continuing to build voter confidence across Indian Country. We hope to see all of our relatives there!

North Dakota Native Vote OPPOSES Measure 1
– What Would It Do?
  • Measure 1 would increase the threshold needed to approve a constitutional amendment from a simple majority to 60% of voters.
– Why Does It Matter to Indian Country?
  • This would make it harder for future constitutional amendments to pass, including amendments that could impact Native communities, tribal-state relations, and issues important to Indian Country.
North Dakota Native Vote SUPPORTS Measure 2
– What Would It Do?
  • Measure 2 would provide one free breakfast and one free lunch each school day to students enrolled in public schools and public charter schools. Bureau of Indian Education and other tribal schools would have the option to participate.
– Why Does It Matter to Indian Country?
  • Native students and families could benefit from greater access to free school meals, helping ensure students have access to breakfast and lunch during the school day. Tribal schools would also have the option to participate.

Know what’s on your ballot, understand how the measures could impact your community, and make your voice heard.
