Looking Ahead This September
September is here, and there’s a lot happening at North Dakota Native Vote! As we move closer to the 2026 election, we’re continuing to connect with communities, share voter education, and create opportunities for Native voters to get involved.
In this edition, take a look back at what we accomplished in August and see what we have planned for September!
Building Connections, Building Voters
Building community trust and voter education remain top priorities for North Dakota Native Vote in 2026. Throughout August, our Field Organizers held 20 intentional and insightful one-on-one conversations with community members across the Turtle Mountain and Fort Berthold communities. We also hosted community engagement parties on the Spirit Lake and Standing Rock reservations, with hopes of collecting lived experiences, community input and genuine solutions to efficiently build community power together. Upcoming engagement parties and gatherings planned for Turtle Mountain and Fort Berthold are set to be held in late September.
These conversations and community gatherings continue to help us cultivate strong relationships by building community power and lay the groundwork for our upcoming voter education efforts.
North Dakota Native Vote Tabled at Spirit Lake Nations Back-to-School Powwow
At the Spirit Lake Nation Back-to-School Powwow, North Dakota Native Vote connected with community members through an engaging information table; focused on the importance of voting and civic participation.
Families, students, elders, dancers, singers, and educators came together through culture, conversation, and encouragement to celebrate the start of a new school year. The powwow offered a welcoming space to connect with the community and recognize the importance of participation beyond the classroom.
We would like to wish all students a strong and successful school year! As the new school year begins, we also encourage every eligible voter to make a vote plan, learn what’s on the ballot and use their voice for their community.
Coming Up: Native Vote 101
North Dakota Native Vote is excited to host Native Vote 101: Voter Education Seminar, a hands-on, community focused event designed to make the voting process simple, accessible, and easy to understand.
Whether you’re a first time voter, want a refresher, or simply have questions about the voting process, this seminar is an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and feel more confident participating in elections!
Participants will learn about the following:
- Voter identification and documentation requirements
- Absentee and early voting
- Understanding the 2026 midterm ballot
- What to expect when voting in person
- A mock election to practice the voting process
Our first Native Vote 101 will be held September 16th, 2026 from 4:30–7:30 p.m. at the Sky Dancer Event Center on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation. Our next seminar will be held September 30th, 2026 at the Sitting Bull College Auditorium in Fort Yates, ND. Dates for the Three Affiliated Tribes and Spirit Lake will be announced later in September. Check our event calendar on our website!
Voters from every affiliation are encouraged to attend! Food, door prizes, and hands-on learning will be provided. Bring your questions, friends, and family and join us as we work to build confidence and make sure our Native Voters are prepared for the 2026 election.
